Jammu: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has restored the damaged section of the Mahanpur–Theyn axis in Kathua district under its ‘Project Sampark’, a defence spokesperson said on Sunday.
The disruption followed a cloudburst on August 17, which caused significant damage along the Pedu Nalla stretch, washing away both an existing bridge and one under construction, cutting off connectivity to a large part of the district, the spokesperson said.
The landslides and landslips triggered by continuous rainfall completely blocked the crucial route linking Ranjit Sagar Dam and Mahanpur. The recovery effort faced major challenges, including massive debris, scattered bridge components, adverse weather, and isolation due to simultaneous blockages on alternate access roads.
The restoration work was executed by the 69 Road Construction Company (RCC), operating under the Commander of the 35 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF), S.K. Singh, based in Udhampur. Excavators and heavy machinery were deployed to remove the landslide debris and rebuild the roadway, the spokesperson added.
