Chandigarh: In a major crackdown on cross-border smuggling of arms and narcotics, the Border Security Force (BSF) has seized pistols, drones, and heroin in separate operations along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab’s Ferozepur and Amritsar districts.
According to officials, BSF personnel on Sunday recovered a packet of heroin weighing 553 grams from an agricultural field near Bhaini Rajputana village in Amritsar.
A day earlier, acting on intelligence inputs, BSF troops recovered a DJI AIR 3S drone near Daoke village in Amritsar. In another operation, they shot down and recovered a DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone carrying a pistol and a magazine from a field near Kahangarh village in the same district.
Separately, a pistol with a magazine and two live rounds were recovered from farmland near Bahadurke village in the Ferozepur sector.
“These successful operations reflect the BSF’s unwavering commitment to thwart cross-border smuggling attempts by Pakistani operatives,” the force said in an official statement.
In a separate incident along the India-Bangladesh border, the BSF on Wednesday apprehended a minor carrying 11 gold biscuits weighing 1,286.17 grams, valued at approximately ₹1.64 crore, in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district.
During questioning, the boy admitted that his mother had sent him to deliver the gold. He was handed over to the relevant authorities along with the seized gold for further legal action.
Earlier this month, BSF personnel had seized a gold bar weighing 579 grams, worth around ₹76.50 lakh, from the same district and arrested one person in connection with the smuggling. The accused was later handed over to the concerned department for further investigation into the racket.
