Kolkata: Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah produced a sensational five-wicket haul as India bowled out South Africa for just 159 on the opening day of the first Test on Friday.
Bumrah (5/27) dismantled the visitors’ batting lineup, removing openers Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton, followed by Toni de Zorzi, Simon Harmer, and Keshav Maharaj.
He received strong support from Mohammed Siraj (2/47), while spinners Kuldeep Yadav (2/36) and Axar Patel (1/21) chipped in with five wickets between them.
South Africa, having opted to bat first, delivered a lacklustre performance. Wiaan Mulder and Toni de Zorzi were the joint top scorers with 24 runs each.
Brief scores: South Africa 1st innings: 159 all out in 55 overs (Wiaan Mulder 24, Toni de Zorzi 24; Jasprit Bumrah 5/27).
