Paris: India had a stellar day at the BWF World Championships 2025, with multiple shuttlers sealing their spots in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
In men’s doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty produced a stunning comeback to defeat Olympic silver medalists and World Championships bronze winners Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang of China. After losing a tight first game 19-21, the Indian duo bounced back strongly to take the next two 21-15, 21-17, wrapping up the contest in 66 minutes.
Earlier, PV Sindhu marched into the quarterfinals with a commanding win over World No. 2 Wang Zhiyi. The 2019 World Champion showcased her dominance, winning 21-19, 21-15 in just 48 minutes. Chasing her sixth World Championships medal, Sindhu will next face Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani for a place in the semifinals. The ace shuttler has already won five medals at this event — bronze in 2013 and 2014, silver in 2017 and 2018, and gold in 2019.
India also had reason to cheer in mixed doubles, where Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto stunned Hong Kong’s two-time World Championships medalists Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet. Despite dropping the first game 19-21, the Indian pair fought back brilliantly to seal the match 21-15, 21-15. They will now face Linden Wang and Eva Wang in the quarterfinals.
Kapila and Crasto had earlier beaten Ireland’s Joshua Magee and Moya Ryan 21-11, 21-16 in just 35 minutes. Kapila gave a scare when he slipped and clutched his knee but quickly recovered to finish the match.
With these results, India continues its proud streak of winning medals at every BWF World Championships since 2011.
