Srinagar: Candlelight marches were held on Wednesday in the Kupwara and Ganderbal districts of Jammu and Kashmir to condemn the recent blast in Delhi that claimed 12 lives, officials said.
In north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, residents, traders, and members of various civil society groups gathered at Main Chowk Handwara to denounce the attack, chanting slogans against terrorism and expressing solidarity with the victims. A similar march was also organised at Main Chowk Langate, where a large number of locals joined to voice their outrage over the incident.
In Ganderbal district, the BJP unit held a candlelight protest at Duderhama, where party workers carried candles and banners, condemning the blast and stressing that violence has no place in a civilised society. Party leaders urged the government to take strict action against those involved and ensure justice for the victims and their families.
The government on Wednesday described the blast near the Red Fort as a “terrorist incident.” Investigations revealed that Dr. Umar Nabi, who was driving the explosives-laden car, had planned the attack to coincide with the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition on December 6.
