New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner Gynaesh Kumar on Sunday said the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is aimed at rectifying errors in voter lists and expressed concern over “misinformation” being spread by some parties. His remarks came as the Congress and other INDIA bloc allies launched their ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar, alleging “vote theft” through the revision exercise.

Rejecting allegations of double voting and “vote chori” as baseless, Kumar stressed that the Election Commission (EC) is ensuring a transparent process. “It is a matter of grave concern that some leaders are spreading misinformation on SIR in Bihar. Political parties still have 15 days to file claims and objections. The EC’s doors are open to all, and booth-level officers are working transparently with party agents,” he said at a press conference.

Kumar asserted that the EC treats both ruling and opposition parties equally. “It is an insult to the Constitution if election petitions are not filed within 45 days, but allegations of vote theft are made outside. Neither the EC nor voters are scared of such baseless claims,” he added.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the EC of colluding with the BJP to “steal” elections. Addressing a rally in Sasaram to flag off his 1,300 km ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ covering 20 districts in Bihar, Gandhi said the INDIA bloc would not allow the “conspiracy” of manipulating voter rolls to succeed.
