NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has updated the composition of a key committee under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, appointing two Lok Sabha members as its new representatives.
A gazette notification issued on Monday amended the original 2017 order detailing the committee’s structure, replacing the previously nominated MPs with E T Mohammed Basheer and Dr. C N Manjunath.
The two lawmakers will now serve as the committee’s elected parliamentary members. The panel, formed by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, is tasked with reviewing disability-related policies and supporting parliamentary bodies working on these issues.
The amendment has been made under Section 60 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, which empowers the Centre to frame and revise rules for implementing the law.
The committee was first constituted in November 2017 and later revised in June and October 2022. The latest update modifies Serial Number 3, Clause (a), replacing the earlier sub-clauses with the names of the newly nominated MPs.
