New Delhi: The Centre has instructed all states and Union Territories to furnish details of contractors and third-party inspection agencies penalised under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), official sources said on Monday.

The directive, issued by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, calls on Chief Secretaries to submit comprehensive reports. The lists must include contractors and inspection agencies that have faced penalties, blacklisting, or recoveries due to irregularities in JJM implementation, the sources added.

The DDWS has also sought details of disciplinary actions taken against officials of Public Health Engineering Departments (PHED) — including suspensions, dismissals, and FIRs — over allegations of poor-quality work or fund misuse.

In addition, states have been told to provide concise one-page summaries of each FIR case and verify data through “ground truthing” to identify duplication, delays, non-implementation, or over-design of projects.

According to officials, the directive follows a high-level review of the Mission, during which the government also discussed the possibility of extending the scheme’s deadline to 2028.
