SRINAGAR: On the eve of the 12th National Unity Day, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Thursday administered the ‘Unity Pledge’ to officers and officials at the Civil Secretariat here.
The ceremony, held to reaffirm the spirit of national integration and collective responsibility, was also attended virtually by employees at the Jammu Secretariat through video conferencing.
During the solemn occasion, civil servants pledged to uphold the unity, integrity, and security of the nation, and to promote these ideals among fellow citizens. They also resolved to contribute towards internal security and strengthen the spirit of national unity in their respective fields of work.
National Unity Day is observed every year to honour the remarkable contribution of India’s first Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, in uniting the nation. The day commemorates his pivotal role in integrating over 560 princely states into the Indian Union after Independence, laying the foundation of a united and strong India.
This year’s observance also coincides with the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, whose vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment continue to inspire the nation to uphold peace, integrity, and unity.
