SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo today held a detailed meeting with Sanjay Kumar, Union Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), to review the progress of ongoing education reforms in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The discussions focused on strengthening the education system, accelerating key initiatives, improving infrastructure, and enhancing learning outcomes across the UT. Emphasis was laid on bridging infrastructural gaps, streamlining human resource management, and integrating out-of-school children into the mainstream education system.

Deliberations also centered on aligning J&K’s education framework with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes holistic, inclusive, and skill-oriented learning. Chief Secretary Dulloo highlighted the importance of ensuring that NEP reforms reach every classroom—from primary to higher education—and stressed early adoption of digital tools, vocational training, and mother tongue–based foundational learning.

The meeting also reviewed the implementation of PM SHRI Schools in J&K. Plans were discussed to expedite the upgrading of selected schools with modern infrastructure, smart classrooms, and innovative teaching practices, transforming them into model schools of excellence that showcase best practices in pedagogy and student engagement. Under the PM SHRI scheme, existing schools will be strengthened and upgraded to provide quality education that enhances students’ cognitive development.

Union Secretary Sanjay Kumar said the scheme aims to create nurturing, holistic, and well-rounded individuals equipped with essential 21st-century skills. He assured full support from the Centre to J&K in implementing both NEP and PM SHRI initiatives. He also highlighted the importance of teacher capacity building, integration of technology, and a robust monitoring mechanism to achieve the desired outcomes.

Chief Secretary Dulloo emphasized that these initiatives will not only improve the quality of education but also equip students in J&K with the skills required to succeed in a competitive global environment.
