JAMMU: Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo, today conducted an extensive review of the ongoing works at the Tawi Barrage and Riverfront Development Project sites to assess their pace of execution. The visit was aimed at taking stock of the major infrastructure projects being implemented along the Tawi River.
He was accompanied by Additional Chief Secretary, Shaleen Kabra; Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar; Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation and CEO Jammu Smart City Limited, Dr. Devansh Yadav; Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Minhas; and senior officers from the concerned departments and executing agencies.

During the inspection, the Chief Secretary reviewed the status of the barrage structures and chaired an on-site meeting to evaluate project milestones. He was informed that all gates of the Tawi Barrage have been installed and made operational, while the hydro-mechanical works have reached an advanced stage.
Officials also apprised him about the ongoing rectification and restoration works being carried out to address damages caused by recent floods, which had affected certain mechanical and civil components of the project.
The review also covered the Tawi Riverfront Development Project, which is progressing simultaneously on both the left and right banks of the river. The Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of adhering to project timelines, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring strict monitoring of execution schedules. He directed the departments to expedite the ongoing works, particularly on the right bank, for timely completion of both the barrage and riverfront components.
Highlighting the project’s significance, the officers informed that the twin barrage system covering the Nikki and Waddi Tawi channels will facilitate effective river flow regulation, interception and diversion of nallahs, and creation of a controlled water body—enhancing flood management, urban aesthetics, and recreational opportunities.
The Chief Secretary observed that the Tawi Barrage and Riverfront initiatives are flagship components of the Jammu Smart City Mission and mark a major stride toward developing Jammu as a modern, sustainable, and environmentally resilient urban center. He directed all executing agencies to maintain close coordination and ensure full compliance with safety and environmental norms.
