Beed: A six-year-old boy lost vision in one eye after a firecracker exploded in his hand during Diwali celebrations in Maharashtra’s Beed city, a doctor treating him said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Monday evening when the boy, a resident of Nagoba Galli, was trying to light a firecracker. After it failed to ignite initially, he attempted to light it again, resulting in an explosion.

The child sustained a severe injury to his left eye and was first taken to the Civil Hospital in Beed before being shifted to a private facility for further treatment.

“The blast caused complete damage to the cornea, resulting in permanent vision loss in one eye,” the doctor from the private hospital said.

The doctor also urged parents to be extra cautious and supervise children while handling firecrackers.
