NEW DELHI, Nov 29: Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant, has highlighted the importance of recreational activities for judges, emphasizing that the demanding nature of judicial work can be highly stressful. Speaking at a seminar on judicial wellness, he urged members of the judiciary to actively engage in hobbies and physical activities to maintain mental and physical well-being.

CJI Surya Kant observed that the judiciary often deals with complex and emotionally taxing cases, which can take a toll on judges’ health over time. He stressed that balancing professional responsibilities with personal wellness is crucial for effective functioning and decision-making.

“Judges must recognise the value of recreational activities, as they help in relieving stress, enhancing focus, and promoting overall well-being,” he said. The Chief Justice encouraged courts and judicial institutions to facilitate opportunities for recreation and wellness programs for judicial officers.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that the mental health and well-being of judges are not overlooked, acknowledging that a healthy judiciary is essential for maintaining public trust and delivering justice efficiently.
