Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 6 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in the landslide near the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district.
The tragic incident on Tuesday claimed 34 lives and left 20 pilgrims injured along the route to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in the Katra area of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to officials, the Rs 6 lakh compensation will comprise Rs 4 lakh from the State Disaster Response Fund and Rs 2 lakh per deceased from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, to be provided to the bereaved families.
