Srinagar: On the eve of voting for the Budgam Assembly bypoll in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday voiced confidence in the ruling National Conference’s chances of victory.

The bypoll, scheduled for Tuesday, was necessitated after Abdullah vacated the Budgam seat last year, choosing to retain Ganderbal following his win from both constituencies in the 2024 Assembly elections.

“Who contests elections expecting to lose? We are hopeful of a win,” Abdullah told reporters on the sidelines of an event in Awantipora, Pulwama, when asked about the party’s prospects.

“We have worked hard; now it’s up to the people. If we secure strong support from the right areas, we will achieve a good result. Let’s see,” he added.

Responding to a query on the reported recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition, allegedly involving two Kashmiri doctors, the Chief Minister said he had no information on the matter.
