CM Omar Abdullah Reaffirms Commitment to Deliver Promises, Inaugurates 15 Water Supply Schemes in Anantnag

ANANTNAG: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today reiterated his government’s commitment to fulfilling promises made to the people and ensuring that public expectations are met. During his visit to Anantnag district, he inaugurated and dedicated fifteen Water Supply Schemes, built at a cost of ₹63.97 crore, to serve the local population.

The schemes—covering Hardu Shichan, Dawoodpora Tilwanipora Kamad, Achabal Town, Andoo Pushroo, Deethu Khul, Shergund Aho Paisan, Ranipora Chohar, Gadval, Kasana Mohalla, Narsangri Kachwan, Laigripora, Sangam Sethar, Pushkreeri, Bakerwal Basti Chek I, and Shalgan GB—will provide safe, filtered drinking water to twenty-four villages and one town, marking a significant boost to the district’s rural water infrastructure.

Addressing a large gathering at Achabal, the Chief Minister said, “Today, we hand over 15 water supply schemes across four assembly segments. Filtered drinking water will now reach your homes. The remaining schemes will also be completed soon.”

He emphasized that development would extend beyond water supply. “Whether it is education, health, roads, industry, tourism, social welfare, or tribal affairs, we will strive to meet your expectations. We will fulfill our promises—have faith in us. The rest is our responsibility,” he added.

Acknowledging the challenges of governance, Omar Abdullah remarked, “Many think running a government is easy. I invite them to sit in my chair for ten days—on the eleventh day, if you can manage without struggle, I’ll concede the point.”

On financial challenges, he noted that his government inherited thousands of crores in pending payments to contractors and service providers. “This was inherited, not caused by us, yet we never used it as an excuse. We worked quietly to resolve these issues. I do not engage in politics of deceit; we present ourselves to you only after fulfilling our duties,” he affirmed.

Touching upon political aspirations, he reiterated his stance on the restoration of statehood: “We will fight democratically and peacefully for our rights under the Constitution. I will not allow destruction in the homes of our people. I believe justice will prevail, and we will achieve our rights. Meanwhile, our work continues,” he said to loud applause.

The event was also addressed by Minister for Jal Shakti Javed Ahmed Rana, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, and MLAs Abdul Majeed Bhat (Anantnag West), Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri (Srigufwara–Bijbehara), Altaf Ahmad Kaloo (Pahalgam), Reyaz Ahmad Khan (Shangus–Anantnag), and Zaffar Ali Khatana (Kokernag), who lauded the inauguration as a landmark step for Anantnag.
