Sports Foster Unity and Friendship: CM
Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today inaugurated the 69th National School Games at TRC Football Ground, Srinagar, formally kicking off the national-level sporting event.
The ceremony was attended by Minister for Youth Services & Sports Satish Sharma, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Lal Chowk Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed (Pardesi), Director General Youth Services & Sports Anuradha Gupta, Secretary J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gul, and several other dignitaries and officials.
This year, the Games feature 30 teams representing various States and Union Territories, competing across six venues in Football, Wushu, Taekwondo, and Table Tennis.






Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the role of sports in promoting unity, friendship, and understanding among youth from diverse regions.
“Sports build bridges of unity and friendship. I am delighted to inaugurate the 69th National School Games. While the weather prevents a long speech, it gives me immense pleasure—on behalf of my colleagues and the people of Jammu and Kashmir—to warmly welcome all participants to this prestigious tournament,” he said.
He assured participants of full support from the government and organisers, emphasizing their comfort and safety. “If you face any inconvenience—be it a shortage of warm clothing or other needs—please reach out to us. We will ensure your stay and participation are as comfortable as possible,” he added.
Encouraging the athletes to enjoy the experience, the Chief Minister noted, “Winning is not as important as taking part. I sincerely appreciate your spirit and enthusiasm in coming here to participate,” wishing them success and memorable moments throughout the tournament.
The march past by all 30 teams drew appreciation from the Chief Minister and applause from a large gathering of schoolchildren and spectators. Players, coaches, and officials also took the oath of sportsmanship, pledging to uphold fair play, discipline, and teamwork.
