CM Omar Abdullah Launches Development Projects Worth ₹36.50 Crore in Ganderbal
GANDERBAL: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today inaugurated and laid the foundation for over a dozen development projects worth ₹36.50 crore during a comprehensive tour of Ganderbal district, reaffirming his government’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure, enhancing road connectivity, and promoting sports and power sectors.
At Beehama, the Chief Minister inaugurated six major sports infrastructure projects, including the upgradation of Beehama Stadium, Madr-e-Meherban Stadium, and playfields at Gund Rehman, Manigam, Wakura, and Batwina. The projects aim to nurture local sporting talent and foster a robust sports ecosystem across the district.
Omar Abdullah also unveiled new sports equipment for youth and witnessed impressive performances in Judo, Thang-Ta, and Yoga, reflecting the district’s vibrant sporting spirit.








At Saloora, he inaugurated a 33/11 KV, 1×6 MVA receiving station to bolster the district’s power distribution system. Later, at the Government College of Physical Education (GCOPE), Gadoora, he inaugurated a Pre-Fab Indoor Badminton Hall, participated in a friendly match, and flagged off girls’ 100-meter sprints on the newly inaugurated 400-meter Synthetic Athletic Track and Synthetic Football Turf, before himself taking part in a sprint.
The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for four key road projects, including:
Upgradation of Shajinga Link Road and Khatijinag Road
Construction and upgradation of Dar Mohallah–Watalbagh–Dangerpora Road
Construction of Pati Waskura–Kharbagh Road
Construction of Tehsil Bagh–Lar Bye Pass–Yanihama–Dangerpora Road
Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Minister Satish Sharma, and senior officials from various departments, Omar Abdullah addressed a large gathering at GCOPE, describing the day’s projects as “the beginning of a new era of development in Ganderbal.” He emphasized that these initiatives were not mere favors, but expressions of gratitude for the people’s trust.
The Chief Minister announced plans to equip every block in Ganderbal with a modern cricket and football ground, along with a library and reading room with internet facilities, supporting both athletes and students preparing for competitive exams. He directed the Youth Services & Sports Department to allow local residents access to the athletic track and football turf during non-academic hours, encouraging wider community participation.
Highlighting the Saloora Grid Station, Omar Abdullah, representing the Ganderbal constituency, said it will significantly strengthen power distribution in the district. He also assured that funds are allocated for upgrading Ganderbal District Hospital and recruiting additional doctors.
Reflecting on the challenges following the 2019 administrative changes, the Chief Minister stated, “We will not make excuses, nor will we stop working. We will provide roads, jobs, education, health, electricity, drinking water, and playfields to our people,” affirming that no part of the district will be left behind.
Concluding his address, Omar Abdullah vowed to work “day and night” to ensure Ganderbal continues on a steady path of growth, echoing the legacy of Baba-e-Qaum, Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah.
