SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today inaugurated the newly constructed Transport Bhawan at Bemina, Srinagar, a major step towards consolidating all transport-related services under one roof and strengthening the infrastructure of the Transport Department in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Transport Bhawan will serve as a central hub for transport administration, accommodating the offices of the Transport Commissioner J&K, Joint Transport Commissioner, Regional Transport Office (RTO) Kashmir, ARTOs, and other related sections. This consolidation is expected to enhance operational efficiency, coordination, and public service delivery.

During the event, the Chief Minister also launched PVC Registration Certificates, a modern initiative providing durable, tamper-resistant, and convenient vehicle registration cards. Replacing the traditional paper format, these PVC cards aim to improve service quality while minimizing misuse.

RTO Kashmir Qazi Irfan Rasool highlighted the significance of the initiative, noting that the new cards are pocket-sized, tamper-proof, and equipped with QR codes for instant verification, ensuring faster issuance and reducing complaints.

The inauguration was attended by Minister for Transport Satish Sharma, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Secretary Transport Avny Lavasa, Transport Commissioner J&K Vishesh Paul Mahajan, Regional Transport Officer Kashmir Qazi Irfan Rasool, and senior officers of the Transport Department.

After the formal ceremony, the Chief Minister toured the building, inspecting its various sections and interacting with officers and staff. He expressed satisfaction with the facilities, stating that the new bhawan would streamline departmental functioning and significantly enhance service delivery for the public.
