Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday expressed deep grief over the devastating landslide in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh.
“This landslide has claimed several lives, including residents of J-K. The Chief Minister’s Office is in touch with the local administration in Kullu, and all possible assistance is being provided,” an official statement from the J-K Chief Minister’s Office said.
Earlier, Kullu Deputy Commissioner Torul Raveesh reported that one person had died, while several others remained trapped.
“Two houses have collapsed, trapping six people. Three individuals have been rescued and admitted to the hospital, while one person has died,” officials told reporters.
The landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall, struck parts of Kullu early Thursday, damaging two to three houses in the inner Akhada Bazaar area.
Rescue operations are underway, with teams from the district administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Home Guard, Fire Department, and Police Department working at the site.
Deputy Commissioner Torul S. Raveesh, SP Kullu Karthikeyan Gokulachandran, local MLA Sunder Singh Thakur, and other district officials are actively coordinating the search and rescue efforts.
