SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday instructed all relevant departments to stay on high alert following heavy rainfall across large parts of the Union Territory.
He also urged residents to exercise caution, as the weather forecast predicts moderate to intense rainfall, with possible cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides in high-altitude areas until August 27.
According to a post on X from the Chief Minister’s Office, Abdullah emphasized that departments must remain vigilant, noting that heavy rains have caused waterlogging in numerous residential areas and rivers and nallahs are flowing above the danger mark.
“Control rooms are operational, and the CM Office is coordinating with all departments. Priority is being given to drainage in affected areas and the restoration of essential services, including water supply and electricity. People are advised to stay cautious,” the chief minister said.
Officials reported that overnight downpours battered much of Jammu and Kashmir, creating flood-like conditions in several low-lying areas and damaging a key bridge on the Jammu-Pathankot national highway.
