SRINAGAR: Amid the prevailing inclement weather in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday directed officials to ensure round-the-clock monitoring and timely evacuation of residents from vulnerable areas.

The directive follows two fresh incidents of cloudburst and landslide in Ramban and Reasi districts, which claimed 11 lives—including seven members of one family—and left one person missing.

Expressing grief over the tragedy, Abdullah noted that four members of a family died and one went missing in Rajgarh, Ramban, while a couple and their five children were buried alive in a landslide at Badder village in Reasi’s Mahore area.

Taking stock of the situation, the chief minister urged people to stay alert, avoid risk-prone zones, and strictly follow safety advisories. “He has directed the district administration and disaster management authorities to remain on the ground, ensure round-the-clock monitoring, carry out timely evacuation, and provide immediate relief and assistance to the affected families,” the CMO said in a post on X.

Abdullah also instructed all concerned departments to remain vigilant, maintain close coordination, and adopt every precautionary measure to safeguard lives. In particular, he ordered immediate rescue and relief operations in Ramban.
