Omar Abdullah clocks personal best at Delhi Half Marathon 2025

New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday participated in the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon 2025, achieving his personal best timing of 1 hour, 53 minutes, and 35 seconds, with an average pace of 5:24 minutes per kilometre.

Sharing his achievement on social media platform X, Abdullah wrote, “Just completed the #VedantaDelhiHalfMarathon with a personal best finishing time.” According to details he posted, he crossed the finish line at 6:53 am, completing the course in 1:53:35.

The 20th edition of the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon was flagged off earlier in the day by Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, CDS General Anil Chauhan, and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi were also present at the event.

Expressing his delight at the successful conduct of the marathon, LG Saxena said that more than 40,000 participants, including 10,000 women, took part in the run. “The Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, which began in 2005, has now completed 25 years. There is tremendous enthusiasm among the people. This reflects the growing impact of the Prime Minister’s Fit India movement, encouraging more citizens to engage in sports and fitness,” Saxena told reporters.

This year, all three Defence Forces participated in the Half Marathon category, with senior officers including Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, Lt Gen Rahul R. Singh, and Vice Admiral L.S. Pathania among the runners.

Adding to the excitement, Olympic legend Carl Lewis, the International Event Ambassador, was present to motivate participants, joined by Olympic bronze medallist and Puma Ambassador Sarabjot Singh and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Tejasvin Shankar.

On the competitive front, Asian Champion and multiple national record holder Gulveer Singh led the Indian elite men’s line-up alongside Abhishek Pal and Kiran Matre, while Lili Das returned to defend her title in the women’s category against strong contenders Sanjivani Jadhav and Ankita Dhyani.
