Awantipora: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today chaired a review meeting at Awantipora, Pulwama, to assess the progress of ongoing works at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Kashmir.

He was accompanied by Health & Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo, Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary to the CM Dheeraj Gupta, Executive Director AIIMS Awantipora Dr. S. Mohanty, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg, Health Secretary Dr. Syed Abid Rashid, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Dr. Basharat Qayoom, and representatives of the executing agency NCC Ltd.

The Chief Minister inspected the site and reviewed infrastructure development, procurement of machinery, mobilization of workforce, and allied works. Stressing strict adherence to deadlines, he directed the executing agency to expedite all pending tasks and ensure time-bound completion. He emphasized that AIIMS Awantipora must be commissioned as a single integrated unit, with both OPD and IPD services starting simultaneously for the public’s benefit.

To fast-track execution, Omar Abdullah instructed fortnightly progress reviews and called for mobilizing additional manpower and machinery. He also reviewed the physical and financial progress of the main hospital building, priority works, approach roads, water supply, emergency department access, and the final master plan. Given the hilly terrain and recent heavy rainfall, he underscored the need for proper stabilization of surrounding areas.

Earlier, Dr. Mohanty briefed the meeting, informing that MBBS courses are scheduled to begin in July 2026, with OPD and allied services expected to start early next year and the institution becoming fully functional by year-end.

Later, the Chief Minister inspected the premises and examined the institution’s master plan.
