Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir has long been a symbol of natural beauty and tourism, even as many regions today promote themselves with catchy slogans, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said.

Addressing the annual function of HDFC Bank at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre in Srinagar on Friday evening, Abdullah praised the bank’s growth, resilience, and enduring commitment to the Union Territory, a spokesperson said on Saturday.

Highlighting the UT’s rich tourism legacy, he recalled the historic description of Kashmir as “Heaven on Earth,” inscribed on the walls of the Red Fort centuries ago. Abdullah encouraged visitors to explore destinations beyond Srinagar, assuring them that such experiences would inspire return visits with family and friends.

Inviting the delegates to experience Kashmir’s beauty, he emphasized that the true measure of tourism success lies in repeat visits. “Our success will not be measured by bringing you here once, but by ensuring that you return,” he said, underscoring the importance of sustainable tourism.

Referring to the bank, Abdullah said it has emerged as a key partner in Jammu and Kashmir’s economic development. With 124 branches and an extensive network of ATMs across both urban and remote areas, HDFC Bank has expanded services in deposits, lending, priority sector financing, and customer-focused initiatives, reflecting its deep-rooted commitment to the people of the UT.

The chief minister expressed gratitude to HDFC Bank for holding its prestigious annual function in Jammu and Kashmir, noting that such events strengthen the region’s growing partnership with the banking sector.

“The presence of HDFC Bank here today reaffirms faith in Jammu and Kashmir’s potential and future,” he added.
