Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday urged citizens to contribute in their own way to uphold the dignity of the national flag and take it to greater heights.

Addressing a Tiranga rally here, Abdullah said, “We don’t need large crowds to make a difference. Every individual can play a part in preserving the respect and honour of the national flag.”

He stressed that hoisting the tricolour should not be confined to official events alone. “We must follow in the footsteps of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for this flag and work to elevate its pride,” he said.

The chief minister also encouraged people not to lose heart if they stand alone for a just cause. Citing an example, he recalled, “A few years ago, the national flag could only be hoisted on government buildings or during official functions. But one individual went to court to secure the right to hoist it on his own premises. That case led to a change in the law, and today, we can proudly display the tricolour on every home.”
