KULGAM: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday visited Kulgam district to assess the flood damage, review restoration efforts, and understand the challenges faced by the local population. During his visit, he interacted with affected families and inspected damaged infrastructure, highlighting the government’s commitment to support citizens during this difficult time.
Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Singh Choudhary, Ministers Sakina Itoo and Javed Rana, Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, legislator Peerzada Feroz, Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Athar Aamir Khan, SSP Kulgam Sahil Sarangal, and other senior officials, the Chief Minister toured several affected areas, including Khudwani, Aadigatnoo, Gudder, Laisoo, and surrounding localities.
Omar Abdullah assured residents that the government would take all necessary measures to provide timely relief and assistance. He directed the district administration to expedite restoration works while ensuring uninterrupted supply of essential services in affected areas.




At a meeting held later at the Mini Secretariat Kulgam, the Deputy Commissioner briefed the Chief Minister on early evacuation measures taken to safeguard lives, as well as on the extent of damage to roads, bridges, and public utilities. He also outlined steps initiated for the rapid restoration of services.
The Chief Minister commended the district administration’s proactive evacuation efforts and instructed departments, including PDD, Jal Shakti, and Irrigation & Flood Control, to work in mission mode to restore essential services.
Highlighting the need to protect farmers’ livelihoods, Omar Abdullah directed an immediate assessment of crop and horticulture losses, including damages incurred during transportation and due to road blockages, to facilitate government compensation.
Expressing concern over illegal mining in the district, he ordered strict enforcement of a complete ban and reiterated the government’s commitment to provide full support to affected families.
