Srinagar, Nov 29: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has alleged that demolition drives in Jammu were carried out without the consent of the elected government, raising questions about the role of the administration and the Centre in bypassing established procedures.
Speaking to reporters, Omar Abdullah said that the actions undertaken in Jammu ignored the authority of the elected government and reflected a troubling trend of unilateral decisions. He stressed that such measures should be coordinated with the state leadership to ensure accountability and transparency.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the National Conference (NC) would continue to maintain a working relationship with the Centre but would not compromise on the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He added that the party would highlight these issues in Parliament and other forums, pressing for the restoration of statehood and special status.
Omar Abdullah emphasised that the elected government must be consulted in matters affecting citizens directly, including demolition drives, urban planning, and development projects. He said bypassing the state leadership undermines democratic processes and erodes public trust.
