JAMMU: Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Yasha Mudgal, chaired a meeting at the Civil Secretariat today to review the overall functioning and performance of the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council (JKSC).
The meeting was attended by Special Secretary YSS, Director Finance YSS, Secretary JKSC, Executive Engineer JKSC, and other senior officials from both YSS and JKSC.
While addressing human resource matters, the Commissioner Secretary emphasized the need to expedite the process of filling all vacant positions, underlining that adequate staffing is crucial for the efficient functioning of sports infrastructure across the Union Territory.
Highlighting the significance of youth engagement in sports, she directed the JKSC to conduct a population-wise analysis of youth participation in sports across J&K and compare it with national averages. She further instructed that a study be undertaken to benchmark J&K’s performance against other states with successful sports development models and adopt their best practices to strengthen the sports culture in the region.
To enhance the competitive performance of athletes, the Secretary JKSC was tasked with formulating a comprehensive plan aimed at increasing medal tallies in national and international competitions.
Recognizing J&K’s potential as an emerging global sports destination, the Commissioner Secretary advised JKSC to explore the feasibility of hosting international sporting events, including World Championships, to boost the Union Territory’s global visibility in sports.
She also stressed the importance of media coverage and instructed the JKSC to ensure that all sports events receive adequate publicity before, during, and after their conduct.
During the meeting, the Secretary JKSC presented a detailed overview of the Council’s operations, including institutional functioning, upcoming projects, major achievements, scheduled international and national championships, and the progress of ongoing works under the Capex and PMDP programs.
