Commissioner SMC reviews Snow Preparedness Arrangements, Outlines Detailed Strategies

SRINAGAR, Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Dr. Owais Ahmed Saturday reviewed the snow clearance and dewatering preparedness in Srinagar city during a comprehensive meeting held at the SMC Central Office, Karan Nagar.

The meeting focused on creating a strategic plan for the deployment of men and machinery for snow clearance and dewatering operations across all municipal wards to ensure residents do not face inconvenience during winter.

The Commissioner emphasized the importance of prioritizing snow clearance and dewatering operations in key areas and on roads leading to essential destinations, including hospitals, ration depots, educational institutions and government offices.

To further streamline snow management, Dr. Owais directed the snow monitoring committee and the 24×7 Control Room to remain fully prepared for immediate response and coordination of snow clearance efforts. “The 24×7 Control Room must be fully responsive to the public to facilitate prompt and efficient snow clearance,” the Commissioner stressed.

Regarding dewatering operations, the Commissioner instructed that all permanent dewatering stations in the city be made fully operational.

Additionally, Dr Owais emphasized the importance of utilizing mobile pumps to address water logging in various areas promptly. These efforts aim to ensure Srinagar remains accessible and resilient, even in adverse weather conditions.

The meeting was attended by Senior Officers, including Joint Commissioners, Executive Engineers, Chief Sanitation Officer, Chief Transport Officer, Stores Officer, and other SMC staff.

Commissioner SMC reviews Installation & Maintenance of Street Lights

Commissioner SMC, Dr. Owais Ahmed conducted a review meeting today to assess the installation and maintenance of street lights undertaken by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).

The session aimed to identify ongoing challenges and develop solutions to ensure the continuous provision of these essential services for the city.

During the meeting, Dr. Owais emphasized the critical role that well-maintained street lighting plays in enhancing public safety and improving the quality of life for Srinagar’s residents. He highlighted the significance of street lighting for the safety and its broader impact on urban infrastructure besides the well-being of the local community.

Commissioner directed EESL representatives to expedite the installation and maintenance of street lights across the city, urging them to take immediate action to restore full service, particularly as the winter season approaches. “Street lighting is vital for the safety and security of our city. It is crucial that we work in close collaboration to address any issues without delay,” Commissioner stated.

He also stressed the need for a coordinated approach to address service gaps, ensuring that all areas in Srinagar are adequately lit to enhance night time visibility and security.
