Committee Reviews JKSIDCO Audit, Calls for Boosting J&K’s Industrial Growth
SRINAGAR: The Committee on Public Undertakings of the J&K Legislative Assembly met today at the Assembly Complex, Srinagar, to review audit paras of the Industries & Commerce Department (JKSIDCO).
Chaired by Ali Mohammad Sagar, the meeting was attended by legislators Saifullah Mir, Ali Mohammad Dar, Baldev Raj Sharma, Mir Mohammad Fayaz, Ranbir Singh Pathania, Bashir Ahmad Veeri, Showkat Hussain Ganai, Saif Ud Din Bhat, Tanvir Sadiq, and senior officials from Industries & Commerce, Finance, Handicrafts, Transport, SICOP, JKCL, and other departments.
The Committee discussed audit paras (2017–18 and 2020–21) highlighting issues such as low utilization of the Samba cement unit, blocked funds and unfruitful expenditure on the failed International Trade Centre (Pampore), interest-free advances to small-scale units, and pending GST recoveries.
Chairman Sagar stressed the need to harness J&K’s industrial potential for employment generation and economic growth, urging sustainable measures to strengthen industrial units across the UT. He directed departments to:
Submit detailed reports on operational and defunct units.
Ensure timely completion of projects like the ITC to benefit artisans and handicrafts.
Fix responsibility for delays and lapses in project execution.
Provide a comprehensive progress report on all ongoing projects within 15 days.
Underscoring transparency and accountability, the Committee called for stricter audits, regular status updates, and submission of audit documents to enable informed decisions and reforms.
