Srinagar: A Delhi-based delegation from the Concerned Citizens’ Group (CCG) met Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday in Srinagar — marking the first such interaction since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

The delegation, led by former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha, included retired Air Vice-Marshal Kapil Kak, senior journalist Bharat Bhushan, and social activist Sushobha Barve. The meeting took place at the Mirwaiz’s residence in Nigeen, the Hurriyat leader’s office said in a statement.

During the discussion, the two sides exchanged views on the overall situation in Jammu and Kashmir and various issues of public concern.

“The conversation also focused on the need for sustained engagement, addressing humanitarian issues including the condition of political detainees, and easing public hardships,” the statement said.

The Mirwaiz expressed appreciation for the delegation’s continued concern for the region, stressing that “dialogue, understanding, and compassion are essential for peace and reconciliation.”

Both sides agreed that ongoing communication and outreach remain crucial to fostering trust and building an atmosphere of stability and hope, the statement added.
