Rajouri: In a landmark humanitarian initiative, the Indian Army in collaboration with Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), Jaipur, organized a Mega Medical and Assistive Device Distribution Camp in Thanamandi, Rajouri. This event exemplified the Indian Army’s enduring commitment to inclusive outreach and the upliftment of vulnerable communities under the banner of Operation Sadbhavna.
The one-day camp brought renewed independence and relief to a large number of specially-abled individuals and economically underprivileged residents from remote and mountainous areas. A wide range of assistive devices was distributed, including wheelchairs, elbow crutches, blind sticks, hearing aids, and orthopedic support devices. What set the camp apart was its patient-centric approach. Each beneficiary underwent an individual medical and orthopedic evaluation, jointly conducted by Army medical teams, civil doctors, and BMVSS technicians.
This ensured that every assistive device was customized to meet the specific mobility and health needs of the recipients. “This wheelchair has changed my life. I feel seen, heard, and cared for,” said a young boy, his eyes filled with hope. A local farmer, after receiving aid for his visually impaired son, added: “Hum door-daraaz se aaye, lekin yeh camp ne humein apnapan ka ehsaas diya.”
(“We came from afar, but this camp made us feel at home.”) In addition to the distribution of mobility aids, the camp also offered free health consultations, essential medicines, and awareness sessions on hygiene, nutrition, and traditional wellness practices, including AYUSH-based healthcare. The holistic approach aimed not just to treat symptoms, but to improve overall well-being. Many participants arrived after long journeys on foot or were carried by family members through difficult terrain— a powerful testimony to the community’s trust in the Indian Army and the transformative impact of the services provided.
This initiative reflects the Army’s ongoing efforts to foster goodwill and collaboration with civilians, especially in sensitive and underserved regions. It highlighted the power of civil-military partnerships in delivering meaningful change at the grassroots level. The event stood not only as a distribution of aid but as a celebration of dignity, resilience, and shared humanity — perfectly embodying the spirit of Seva (Service), Samarpan (Sacrifice), and Sadbhavna (Harmony).
