Jammu: A delegation from the Jammu and Kashmir Congress, led by party chief Hameed Karra, visited flood-affected areas along the India-Pakistan border in Jammu district on Monday, attributing the devastation to administrative lapses. The party emphasized the need to raise these issues with the central leadership to ensure that residents’ basic needs are addressed.

The team toured Garkhal, Pargwal, and Hamirpur in the Akhnoor region to assess the impact of continuous rains and widespread flooding. During interactions with local residents, Karra heard firsthand accounts of hardships, including disruptions in water supply, electricity, and road connectivity. Villagers also highlighted prolonged delays in completing a crucial bridge at Indri, which serves over 20,000 people.

Karra assured the people that their concerns would be presented to both the Union Territory government and the Centre, and he advocated for a comprehensive relief package to alleviate their difficulties. Referring to the border population as “unarmed soldiers of the country,” he stressed that it is the government’s responsibility to provide them with full support and essential facilities.

Earlier, Karra had visited Katal Battal Nagrota, Gorkha Nagar, Gujjar Nagar, and other city areas to engage with affected residents, promising to raise their issues at the appropriate forums.
