Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Congress on Monday alleged a “security lapse” during the visit of the party’s Rajya Sabha MP, Syed Naseer Hussain, claiming he was not provided security or a vehicle as per protocol, and demanded action against the officials responsible.

At a press conference, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Karra accused authorities of giving “preferential treatment” to BJP leaders and said the party would raise the matter with both the Centre and the J-K government.

Karra expressed regret that Hussain, an MP and AICC general secretary in charge of J-K and Ladakh, was denied security arrangements in line with established protocol. “With the dual control system in J-K, responsibilities are unclear. This is the first time we have seen officials fail entirely in providing proper security and protocol for someone of his stature,” he said.

Highlighting the lapse, Karra noted that Hussain was not even provided a vehicle for travel, and only a single PSO was sent to the airport “without proper application of mind.” He added that when the party raised the issue with the officer in charge, the officer reportedly stated that sitting vehicles are not provided to MPs.

Karra accused the government of giving preferential treatment to BJP leaders and said, “I do not want to enumerate the MPs or non-MPs from the BJP who receive such privileges. This is a serious concern for us.”

Terming the incident a “security lapse,” the JKPCC chief stated that the party will pursue the issue with both the central and J-K governments. “Those responsible should be reprimanded and dealt with according to the rules,” he demanded.
