Jammu: The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Doda, on Monday suspended a constable for allegedly assaulting a Village Defense Guard (VDG) member in Doda district.
According to sources, SgCt. Mohd Zia of Police Post Premnagar is facing suspension following the alleged incident. SSP Doda, Sandeep Mehta (JKPS), took immediate action after taking strong note of the misconduct.
A police spokesperson stated that SgCt. Zia has been attached to the District Police Lines (DPL) pending further proceedings. A departmental enquiry has been ordered, with a senior officer appointed to conduct a thorough investigation. The enquiry report is expected within two weeks.
The enquiry will also examine the role of the then SHO of Police Station Thathri, DySP (P) Afeer Jaleel, to determine if any lapses occurred under his supervision. Specific findings will be submitted for further action.
The statement emphasized that the District Police are actively investigating the matter and assured that anyone found guilty of wrongdoing will be dealt with strictly according to the law.
