Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal narrowly missed out on a double century, but India maintained firm control on day two of the second and final Test against the West Indies, reaching 427/4 at lunch on Saturday.
Jaiswal was run out for a brilliant 175 following a mix-up with captain Shubman Gill, who remained unbeaten on 75 at the interval alongside Dhruv Jurel, batting on seven.
Though not at his most aggressive, Jaiswal looked untroubled throughout his innings, dominating the West Indies attack at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. His dismissal came only through a miscommunication — after driving Jayden Seales to mid-off, he charged down the pitch before realising Gill had refused the run. The 23-year-old turned back too late and walked off after a majestic innings featuring 22 boundaries.
Gill soon regained composure, bringing up his second consecutive fifty of the series with a crisp four off Seales.
Batting at number five, Nitish Kumar Reddy was given a reprieve on 20 when Anderson Phillip dropped him at mid-off. He went on to strike a couple of sixes in a quickfire 43 before mistiming a slog-sweep against Jomel Warrican.
Having wrapped up the opening Test in Ahmedabad within three days, India are now eyeing a clean 2-0 series sweep.
