Crime Branch Busts Property Dealers in ₹1.25 Crore Land Scam

Jammu: The Crime Branch has arrested and filed a chargesheet against two property dealers from Kathua in connection with a ₹1.25 crore land scam.

The accused have been identified as Devinder Singh (S/o Jai Singh, Ward No. 10, Kathua) and Anil Kumar (S/o Bishamber Dass, Baira, Kathua).

In 2024, an FIR was registered following a complaint from Jaswinder Singh of Pathankot, Punjab, and Verinder Sharma of Greater Kailash, Jammu. The complainants, partners in the firm Transworld Infra Developers and Builders, intended to develop a unit in Kathua. The accused approached them claiming ownership of 270 Kanals of land in Govindsar, Kathua, and sold it fraudulently by falsifying ownership records, duping the complainants of ₹1.25 crore.

Investigation confirmed the allegations, leading to the arrest of the accused and the filing of a chargesheet in the court of the Special Mobile Magistrate, Kathua.

It is notable that Devinder Singh was previously named in FIR No. 323/2020 under various IPC sections, including 120-B, 323, 415, 417, 419, 420, 426, 447, 465, 467, 468, 471, and 506, at Police Station Kathua. He was convicted in that case, and the challan was produced in court.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Crime), Jammu, Benam Tosh, confirmed that the accused in FIR No. 24/2024 under sections 420, 465, 467, 468, and 120-B IPC, registered at Crime Branch EOW Jammu, have been arrested and chargesheeted for judicial proceedings.
