Emphasis on Immediate Action Following HM’s Directions

JAMMU: Following Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Jammu yesterday to assess the damage caused by recent flash floods, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo today chaired a high-level meeting with Administrative Secretaries and Divisional officials to ensure swift and time-bound implementation of the Minister’s directives.

At the outset, the Chief Secretary stressed the urgent need for seamless inter-departmental coordination to provide immediate relief to affected communities and restore essential services, including power supply and potable water, at the earliest.

Highlighting the critical importance of connectivity, he directed all departments to expedite the restoration of damaged roads, as they form the backbone of relief, rehabilitation, and restoration efforts. He also instructed Divisional and District administrations to prepare comprehensive action plans for repairing infrastructure in flood-hit areas, with strict adherence to timelines.

Focusing on public health, the Chief Secretary ordered that all water sources be tested for contamination before supply to prevent outbreaks of water-borne diseases. The Health Department was tasked with organizing medical camps in affected villages to conduct health checks and ensure the availability of essential medicines.

He further called for a detailed safety audit of public infrastructure—including educational and health institutions, bridges, and government offices—to ensure structural stability and protect lives.

Stressing the urgency of these measures, the Chief Secretary emphasized that they are directives from the Union Home Minister and must be implemented with the highest priority. He reiterated the government’s commitment not only to immediate relief and rehabilitation but also to long-term resilience through improved infrastructure planning, disaster preparedness, and preventive measures to mitigate future calamities.
