CS Atal Dulloo reviews welfare initiatives for ex-servicemen with Defence Secretary (ESW)

SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo today held an extensive meeting with Dr. Niten Chandra, Secretary (Ex-Servicemen Welfare), Ministry of Defence, to review and deliberate on the implementation of welfare measures for Ex-Servicemen in Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, Home Department, Chandraker Bharti, along with other senior officers.

During the discussions, several key issues concerning the welfare and post-retirement opportunities of Ex-Servicemen were taken up. These included creating and digitizing a comprehensive database of Ex-Servicemen in J&K for effective cadre management, allowing serving personnel to apply under the ‘Ex-Servicemen Quota’ in government jobs during their last year of service to ensure a smoother transition to civilian life, and engaging retired soldiers as NCC trainers to utilize their expertise and discipline.

The Chief Secretary also highlighted the need to expand livelihood opportunities for Veer Naris and reviewed the functioning of Sainik Welfare Boards across districts. Measures to simplify and expedite the resolution of service-related grievances were also discussed.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Chandra expressed the Ministry’s deep gratitude to Ex-Servicemen, especially those from J&K, for their invaluable service in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty. He reaffirmed the Central Government’s commitment to their welfare, assuring that post-retirement livelihood avenues under various schemes would continue to be broadened, along with easier access to reserved job opportunities.

Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, while acknowledging the sacrifices of Ex-Servicemen, said the nation remains indebted to them. He assured that the J&K administration gives due consideration to their concerns and will continue to take proactive steps to safeguard their welfare and ensure a dignified life after retirement.
