Srinagar: As part of the recently reinstated biannual practice known as the Darbar Move, government offices in Srinagar closed on Friday and will reopen in Jammu, the Union Territory’s winter capital, on November 3, officials said.

The centuries-old tradition, which was discontinued by the Lieutenant Governor’s administration in 2021, was revived by the Omar Abdullah government on October 16.

According to officials, offices in Srinagar following a five-day work week closed after regular hours on Friday, while those with a six-day schedule will shut down on Saturday. All departments are scheduled to resume operations in Jammu from November 3.

Authorities have made comprehensive arrangements for the accommodation, transport, and security of employees shifting from Srinagar to Jammu to ensure uninterrupted administrative functioning.

Meanwhile, the traffic department has announced that no goods carriers will be allowed to travel from Jammu towards Srinagar on Saturday and Sunday in view of the move.
