DC Budgam distributes Kisan Credit Smart Cards to farmers

Awareness Camp on PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana also organised for farmers

BUDGAM: In a special joint camp, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Akshay Labroo today distributed Kisan Credit Smart Cards to eligible farmers, enabling them to access financial support for their agricultural needs by means of a smart easy to use card issued by the bank.

He said in a joint effort by district administration, Department of Agriculture and Banks, more than 6,000 KCC Smart Cards have been sanctioned demonstrating commitment to empowering farmers of Budgam.

In this camp, joint awareness programme on the Smart Kisan Credit Card (KCC) and PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana was also organised at the Sheikh ul Alam Centre.

The programme brought together farmers, key stakeholders, beneficiaries to educate them about the benefits and application procedure of these schemes.

The programme was presided over by DC Budgam, besides GM DIC Budgam Waseem Raja, CPO Budgam, Chief Agriculture Officer Budgam, Executive Engineer KPDCL and Lead District Manager Budgam, eminent citizens, farmers and other stakeholders of Budgam participated in the programme.

Speaking on the ‘Smart Kisan Credit Card’, the DC briefed its role in providing financial assistance to farmers, helping them access easy credit for agricultural activities.

He highlighted that the scheme enables farmers to meet their input costs, purchase equipment, and manage unforeseen expenses without financial stress.

Labroo urged eligible farmers to enroll and take full advantage of this initiative for the growth of the agriculture sector in Budgam. He stressed on awareness of this fruitful scheme across district.

On the occasion, the DC also discussed PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

He stated that the scheme is a major step towards promoting renewable energy by encouraging households to adopt solar power.

He explained that the initiative aims to provide electricity benefits, reducing dependency on conventional power sources and lowering electricity costs for families. He assured full administrative support for the smooth implementation of the scheme and urged citizens to register and avail its benefits.

Together, these initiatives strengthen both economic and environmental stability, he added.

Various speakers including GM DIC and Chief Agriculture Officer highlighted the importance of both the schemes.
