JAMMU: Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, today conducted an extensive visit to several villages in the Surinsar area, covering five panchayats—Surinsar, Surgan, Athen, Chilla, and Pounthal—as well as Khanna Chhargal and other villages along the route. During the visit, he inspected the condition of key roads, including Surinsar–Pathwar and Churana Road.
A public meeting was held at Surinsar, where Dr. Minhas engaged in detailed discussions with local residents. He directed executing agencies, including the ERA, to expedite road clearance operations and prioritise the restoration of tractor roads, PMGSY roads, and other internal link roads. The District Mining Officer was instructed to ensure the removal of sludge from affected sites in response to public demand.
Reiterating official guidelines, the DC stated that schools will reopen only after obtaining safety clearance from the PWD and CEO or the concerned ZEO, following proper structural assessments. He also emphasised the prompt revival of health facilities, directing the BMO and Health Department to take necessary measures.

On compensation for crop and livestock losses, Dr. Minhas instructed that assessments be finalised within two days. He further stressed that restoration works should be completed ahead of projected timelines, even if additional manpower is required.
Acknowledging the public’s positive response to the administration’s efforts, the DC expressed gratitude for their cooperation and assured that maximum damages to property and livestock would be compensated as per norms.
The visit was accompanied by Additional District Development Commissioner Sher Singh; ACR Dr. Rajesh Kumar; Chief Medical Officer Dr. Harbaksh Singh; Assistant Commissioner Panchayat Shehzada Noor ul Ain; XEN PDD; XEN PWD; and other district officers.
