JAMMU: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya chaired a meeting to review the progress of the Swachh Bharat Mission in the district.
During the course of the meeting, the DC called upon the officers to encourage behavioral change among the public to promote cleanliness and to take firm action against willful defaulters. Visible improvements must be ensured in all blocks, with BDOs instructed to conduct regular inspections to maintain sanitation standards.
The Deputy Commissioner directed SDMs to closely monitor the status of door-to-door garbage collection and emphasised strict measures to curb roadside garbage dumping and the disposal of waste into rivers and canals. “Such practices must be strictly curtailed,” the DC stated, urging strict enforcement against irresponsible garbage dumping and littering.
Discussions during the meeting also focussed on wet waste management, with an emphasis on its role in compost generation. The DC highlighted the importance of effective wet waste processing to align with the mission’s objectives.
Additionally, the review covered the status of Plastic Management Units, the Gobardhan scheme, Community Sanitary Complexes and plans for installing dustbins.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner Sher Singh, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Assistant Commissioner Panchayats Shehzada Noor ul Ain, Block Development Officers, Chief Planning Officer Uttam Singh besides other concerned officers.
