DC Rajouri reviews drug control measures, calls for awareness, rehabilitation and helpline facility

RAJOURI: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, today chaired a meeting to review and strengthen drug control measures in the district.

The meeting focused on intensifying awareness campaigns, enhancing de-addiction and rehabilitation facilities, and ensuring effective counseling and support for individuals affected by substance abuse.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the officer from the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) to mobilize Self-Help Groups (SHGs) for grassroots-level awareness campaigns to educate communities about the harmful effects of drugs. He underlined the importance of community-driven initiatives in preventing youth from falling prey to addiction.

A major decision taken during the meeting was to establish a dedicated helpline, to be managed by the Health Department, for individuals battling drug addiction. The helpline will provide essential information, counseling, and treatment guidance to those seeking help.

The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the functioning of the Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) and instructed officers to ensure adequate rehabilitation services, aftercare, and compassionate counseling for victims. He emphasized adopting a coordinated and holistic approach involving health, education, police, and social welfare departments to address the issue comprehensively.

Reiterating the administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug abuse, the DC stressed on close coordination among enforcement agencies, healthcare institutions, and civil society organizations to combat the menace and facilitate recovery and reintegration of affected individuals into society.

The meeting was attended by SSP Gaurav Sikarwar; ADC Rajouri, Chander Prakash; PO ICDS, Harpal Singh; DFO Rajouri; CMO, Dr. Manohar Lal Rana; DSWO, Abdul Raheem; and DO NRLM. Joining virtually were ADC Kalakote, Mohd Tanvir; ADC Nowshera, Pritam Lal Thapa; ADC Sunderbani, Ramkesh Sharma; and SDM Thanamandi, Abid Hussain Shah.
