DC Ramban inspects road clearance work on NH-44

RAMBAN: Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mussarat Islam, accompanied by senior officers, inspected the road restoration works on the damaged NH-44 stretch which continued for the second day today.

The portions of highway were damaged at Chabba Seri and other locations due to sinking of road due to the flash floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains.

The DC was accompanied by the SSP Traffic, NHW, Rohit Baskotra; SSP Mohita Sharma; ADC, Harbans Lal and officers from NHAI besides others.

The landslides had earlier blocked 270-km long National Highway, at Mehad, Seri, Panthyal and some other critical spots in the Ramban district.

The Deputy Commissioner inspected the Seri-Chabba stretch where the road caved in due to unprecedented increase in water level of River Chenab.

After discussing the measures being taken by NHAI and its concessionaire companies engaged in four laning national highway works, the Deputy Commissioner directed the officers of NHAI and executing agencies to expedite the restoration and use adequate men and machinery for immediate restoration of the traffic. He advised the passengers to contact the Traffic Control Room before embarking on their journeys on the National Highway.

Meanwhile, the DC also inspected Yatri Niwas Chanderkote, langers and Lodgement Centres established for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra by the district administration for the comfortable stay of the pilgrim in the district.

The DC directed the officers, assigned different duties, to extend all necessary services to stranded yatris during their stay at Yatri Niwas Chanderkote, Yatra Camp, Lamber and other Lodgment Centres.
