Defence PRO Srinagar pays homage to officers slain in 1999 fidayeen attack
Srinagar: The Ministry of Defence’s Public Relations Office (PRO) in Srinagar on Monday paid heartfelt tributes to officers and soldiers who sacrificed their lives while repelling a fidayeen attack in 1999.
In a solemn ceremony held at the PRO office in Badami Bagh Cantonment, all ranks paid rich homage to Major P. Purushottam, Subedar Brahm Dass Sharma, and four other soldiers who were martyred while combating terrorists on November 3, 1999, the PRO said in a statement.
Major Purushottam, then serving as the Defence PRO, and his colleagues valiantly fought the attackers who stormed the office, laying down their lives while protecting journalists present during the assault.
“The gallant act of these bravehearts saved civilian lives even as they made the supreme sacrifice. Their selfless courage continues to inspire and motivate us. The Indian Army proudly remembers these heroes and pays its humble tribute,” the statement added.
