NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday transferred the investigation into the Red Fort blast to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), sources said.
The move signals that the government is treating the explosion, which claimed 12 lives, as a suspected act of terror, since the NIA exclusively handles terror-related cases.
“The blast case has been handed over to the NIA,” a source confirmed.
The decision came shortly after Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the security situation in the national capital and other parts of the country following the incident. Shah has called another high-level security review meeting for Tuesday afternoon.
He said that top investigating agencies are looking into the case and will conduct a thorough probe into the circumstances of the blast.
The explosion occurred on Monday evening when a slow-moving car burst into flames at a traffic signal near the Red Fort Metro station, killing at least 12 people and damaging several nearby vehicles, officials said.
