NEW DELHI, Dec 4: The national capital was placed under a high alert on Thursday as Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in India for a two-day visit. A multi-layered security grid has been enforced across Delhi, with Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams, snipers, and quick-reaction units deployed at sensitive points to ensure maximum vigilance.

Senior police officials confirmed that more than 5,000 personnel have been mobilised to monitor the Russian President’s movements from his arrival to departure. “Minute-to-minute coordination is underway, and all concerned agencies have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance throughout,” a senior officer said. The exact location of Putin’s stay has been kept undisclosed due to security protocols.

Anti-drone systems and jammers have been positioned at strategic points to counter aerial threats, while route security and traffic arrangements are being supervised by top-ranking Delhi Police officers. All roads mapped for VVIP movement have been sanitised in advance, and traffic advisories are being issued to minimise public inconvenience.

Putin’s visit marks his first trip to India in four years, coming at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit. The two leaders are scheduled to hold a private dinner at the Prime Minister’s residence, followed by formal talks covering defence, energy, and strategic cooperation.

Hoardings featuring images of Putin and Modi have been put up across the capital, reflecting the significance of the visit. Officials said that every movement of the Russian President will be tracked by multiple security units operating jointly, with contingency plans in place for any emergency.

The heightened security arrangements underline the importance of the summit and the sensitivity of hosting a foreign head of state amid global geopolitical tensions. Authorities stressed that the measures are aimed at ensuring both safety and smooth conduct of the high-profile engagements.
