Deputy Commissioner Jammu plans revamp of RS Pura Railway Station to preserve its heritage

JAMMU: Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, today chaired a meeting to discuss the renovation and preservation of the heritage railway station at RS Pura.

Dr. Minhas emphasized transforming the station into a heritage site to attract tourists and promote it as a notable destination. He instructed the concerned departments to remove obstructions and encroachments and suggested incorporating aesthetic elements such as cobblestone pathways and Victorian-style lamps to enhance the station’s visual appeal. Highlighting the broader impact, he noted that the development would also create opportunities for revenue generation and local livelihoods.

Officials present at the meeting included Ashwani Kangotra, Superintending Engineer of the Public Works Department; Anuradha Thakur, Subdivisional Magistrate of RS Pura; and Dr. Sangeeta Sharma, Assistant Director of the Archaeology and Archives Department, among others.
